child sleep problems
Hello,
I would very much appreciate help in the following matter. I have a three year old daughter with an extremely difficult sleep pattern. She was extremely colicky for about ten weeks, then at six months she started tossing and turning in her sleep, and every eighth day or so she would wake up at about three a.m. and stay awake for three hours straight. It's been two and a half years of this, I am extremely tired, she is not doing so well afterwards (the sleep pattern becomes even more disturbed for about two-three nights, and then she sleeps profoundly because she is extremely tired). She stopped taking naps in April, at 28 months, was just very active around the time she would have to take the nap, showed no signs of tiredness until evening. When she does sleep, she sleeps for 11 or 12 hours. She has already been given complex treatments by two different professional homeopaths, with temporary results. I have been using mostly homeopathy with her since birth, it has helped with almost everything else. The one remedy that did help for a while was Pulsatilla 30 ch, given before bedtime. She was born after a long labour, I pushed for about three hours (between 3 and 6 a.m. - the exact interval when she stays awake) and she was eventually pulled out by forceps. I have immediately given her specific remedies for birth trauma. No major health problems except for big tonsils and adenoids, which were removed in the spring after long episodes of suffocation (we tried homeopathic treatments for a long time but it had got to the point where she would get throat infections, with high fever, every three weeks - which went on for about a year). Also - a small eczema patch that went away about one year ago. Aside from that, she is very healthy, has received very few vaccines (we stopped at 6 months), eats mostly organic, fresh foods, a balanced diet overall. She's a very good eater, always been, prefers meats and fruit. Craves salt, pickles. Was breastfed for about a year. Hands and feet tends to become cold when outdoors, she does not enjoy the cold whatsoever. Loves water and warm weather. Tall, muscular type (blond-reddish fine, curly hair), very active (even in the womb would be in constant movement), performative, loves to sing and dance. Very talkative, excellent attention span, learns extremely quickly. Very sensitive and perceptive, attentive to people's emotional state, will comfort you if she feels you're upset. Never wanted to sleep on her own, even now we co-sleep. She wanted to be carried a lot, so she was in a sling for over two years. Never been in daycare, always with family. Very confident, excellent social skills. Temper tantrums ended about four weeks ago (she turns 3 on Dec. 10) Very determined, can become angry in a flash but will change moods almost immediately. Easy to reason with, she is almost like a mature person in the way she approaches situations. I am not sure what else would be relevant. I would be most grateful for any suggestions, we all need more sleep but mostly I am concerned that this hasn't changed in almost three years, when kids tend to overcome their early problems by the time they turn three. I am concerned that she will eventually be affected, both physically and intellectually, by not getting enough sleep. Many thanks in advance to anyone who responds. |
