I would look at various things :
1. Diet - If he's on commercial food, I'd preferably change him onto a natural raw food diet, ie raw bones, raw processed veg etc, but if they insist on keeping him on commercial, at least change him onto one like Burns which has no additives etc.
2. Who is leader of the pack? I'd guess it's the dog. Get a hold of Jan Fennel's books and apply the principles from them. Once the dog knows it is not in charge, it becomes much less stressed and calmer.
3. Bach Flower Remedies are great for emotional problems. The book Dogs Misbehaving is the best available and explains it very well, also has contact details for the authors who are great.
4. Yes, homeopathy can help too, but you need more to go on than 'he's hyoperactive'
5. Valerian is a herb that is good for calming down both people and animals.
There's more, but I can't think at the mo, however, that will do for starters.
